on Memorial Day should we buy a gift for alive people?

I know that Memorial day is the date we commemorate the fallen in the war, but on this day, can we buy some thing as gift for relatives, parents, children? Is that ok? How about http://goods4sales.com/2012/04/10-cup-thermal-prog... should i buy this one for my moms on this day?

i took my mom and dads out for dinner. I just think that memorial day is the date we celebrate to remember the fallen in the battlefield for freedom of the country.but how about the alive people? are they everyday contributing to the country, aren't they? By the way, why do I want to buy a gift for my mom because she is my mom. thanks her we are here and we should take every valuable second to look after our parents as long as they are alive.     I believe that Veterans day is for living veterans, while memorial day is more of a remembrance for all those who have died. I'm sure she wouldn't mind a gift though.
