kitten litter for 4 week old?

We adopted two kittens we presume to be 4 weeks old and they must soon start litterbox action. On here we learned we should avoid clay cat litter and clumping C-L, so what do we use? I have dry, good, hardwood sawdust available.

I've recently started to use Feline Pine, its a wood shaving litter (not just wood pellets) that clumps. It's the first litter I've used that Really controls odder.

My kitten has been fine using it.

It does however tend to stick to there feet more than clay litter so there is a tracking problem.

According to the site below, "When purchasing litter for a kitten, the old fashioned, unscented, clay type works the best. When the kitten is about four months old the clumping litter can be used."

I don't know about sawdust. All I can think of is sawdust getting into my eye and how awful that was and what it might do to a kitten. So my first response is no sawdust but I could be wrong I just wouldn't use it.

you can use any litter as long as you check out the back ends of the kittens for any adherent litter that would possibly block them from further elimination. You can use the sawdust with the same stipulations. Finely shredded newspaper is an excellent litter.

I would suggest either World's Best or Sweetscoop litter. World's best is corn based and Sweetscoop is wheat based. Both are non toxic if your kitten eats it. They clump really well, too. The downside is they are expensive, but really worth the extra price. You can get both at PetSmart. Good luck and hope this helps.

that might do the trick. shredded news paper will soemtimes work as well. you might even try good old playground sand, which you can pick up at wal-mart or a place like Lowes or Home Depot. It's usually not very expensive for a bag.
