Should I upgrade my laptop or just get a desktop?
$150 Budget,
Option (A)
going from 3gb ram to 8gb ram and 320gigs to 1tb
(I know how to upgrade said laptop without much struggle)
Option (B)
buying a desktop.
I don't need portability so B may be better for me. can i get one with at least a dual core and at least 4gigs of ram? Would it be cheaper to start with a tower and upgrade?
Links to legitimate stores for desktops and desktop parts would be nice.

Like Bill said, $150 is only going to get you so far. Ram is very cheap these days, however, depending on your laptop make/model, it may be more expensive or harder to find. The same goes for hard rives. A decent desktop will cost you around 300 clams depending on where you get it. Hope this helps.
Answer mine please if you can!

Personally I wouldn't even bother trying to shop with $150, your best bet is to wait and save and then I would advise to buy a desktop as you will get much better value for money and performance compared to a laptop which requires you to spend more to get the same performance when compared to desktops within the same price range

i do no longer understand specifically approximately Alienware as they make pretty intense end stuff which would be greater upgradeable, yet maximum laptops have not got as many improve concepts as computers. you're pretty lots constrained to RAM and stressful tension. you could no longer beat a private laptop for upgradeability.

Well just ram an hard drive isn't going to increase performance (ram just a bit ...maybe) many older laptops cant take more than 4 GB of ram for one thing..then since you have 3GB your using both slots...AND...you obviously have a 32bit OS...that wont see more than 3.25GB of ram. A 1T hard drive for a laptop is a bit expensive and because of its 5200/5400 RPM rating would actually slow down your laptop! As you have found out...laptops are not very "upgradable" but your $150 budget will certainly stymie you from getting any desktop/tower...even a good used one!....Save your money and live with what you have...save up...till you can afford a DECENT desktop.

I think you are pushing it a bit with just $150 for a desktop as you'll be getting VGA card, ram, cpu, motherboard... there are motherboards that have the cpu and the vga card built in already like http://www.singular.com.cy/motherboards-en/cpu-on-... (actually have that one. good for email and web browsing but not for games.)
The ram for your laptop depends on what your motherboard takes. Price will go up or down depending.
DDR3 4GB stick is less expensive than DDR2 http://www.xpcpro.com/memory-ram/laptop-ddr3/corsa...

A desktop for $150? With that, u can get is ur dual core processor and 4gb ram stick..but unless u cough up more money, I'm afraid that's all ur gonna get. A processor and a ram stick.

Your not going to get very far with only $150.
I can't give you links to stores because I don't know what city you live in.
Here where I live "UMART" is the best. (Australia).
