To copy TV to a hard drive - I need help please?

I have a HD LG TV with a HDMI port.

Can anyone tell me if I need a self powered external hard drive or will it be powered through the HDMI cable from the TV?

Can anyone help with a cable type that I need and finally any advise on a make of hard drive that is reliable in the 1TB to 2TB range? Both computer stores and TV stores look at me with blank expressions. I have sent two emails to LG but no answer.

I can't be the first to want to record a TV show for later viewing using a computer external and free standing hard drive for the storage medium.

    Hi

Either get a tv with the usb record freeview option if in the UK or if you have a computer laptop or desk top one of those cheap pen drive look in free view tuners but use a roof antenna .Or from China you can get cheap tuners for freeview with a usb socket which will take a hard drive but the one i have is only for the older type file system fat 32.Cost around £20 or less at the moment. If you have access to freeview checkout the QVC channel they had a DGM with usb record and they have a website. The draw back with the China made cheap tuners is you can view a few days ahead on the guide but can only set to record for that day.But the pictures good and recordings to pen drive work well on the computer.

Or try ebay for a pvr and look for refurbs to keep the cost down.

    Hope this helps

hey Bedouin, grumpy mac is correct. HDMI is input only.

I have a DVR with hard drive But the programmes record through either scart or RGB cables in normal definition. even from the sky HD box.

I have to use a blue ray recorder for High Def. then move that to my Laptop and then to a memory stick which i can then play back through the USB on the TV or HDMI from the laptop to the TV.

And the Copywrite stuff encoded nowadays makes it almost impossible to copy stuff they dont want you to.

You cannot do what you want.

The HDMI jack on the TV is an INPUT, not an output. And HDMI is full of copy-protection to prevent you from recording things.

Some televisions have a USB jack which can play things from the flash drive. But again - these are INPUTS to the TV and not outputs.

(The TV is a destination device)

What you want is a DVR from either your cable or sat company to record shows for later use. But again - there is lots of copy protection to prevent you from burning copies and selling them.

    Hey,

sometimes adobe flash player is not properly installed or damaged and can cause problems to your videos. For instance if your videos are not showing up on facebook or youtube probably you don't have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player installed. You should definitely download Adobe Flash Player (get one of the latest versions though) and you are very likely to solve your problem.
