Question about gas for the mazda 5?
My mom got a 2007 Mazda 5 about a month in a half ago and the dealer said it only takes premium gas. Is that true? Would it be OK to put regular gas in it. I tried searching it on Google and couldn't find anything. And I know some dealers don't know ****

The manual and the lid on the gas tank itself should tell you if it recommends premium.
If it does you should put premium in it. Certain engines are designed to take higher octane ratings and using lower octane ratings can damage the engine. Not as likely in newer engines due to knock sensors, but still a possibility. You will usually get more benefits out of the higher octane too.

It uses regular gas.
The Mazdaspeed 6, Mazda MX-5, and Mazdaspeed 6 and Mazda RX-8 and RX-7 are the only Mazda's that require premium gas.
All other Mazda's use regular gas.

Whatever the drivers manual recommends is what you should put in. Putting a lower octane fuel when a higher octane fuel is required has the possibility of shortening engine life and components as well as losing fuel efficiency.

The 5 runs on regular.
He may have confused it with the MX-5 (Miata), which does take premium.
