DSLR - very blurry background ?
I have a Canon 550d and the standard lens and a 50mm 1.8 lens
With what lens or technique can I get pictures like this?

http://www.michellephan.com/post/applying-makeup-o... (the third one)
I'm new to those cameras, please help me out :)
When I'm using the 50mm f1.8 lens I have to go very far away to capture a picture of e.g. a whole person!
So a lens like 24-70 mm f/2.8 (f/2.8 ..the lower it is the more blurry it get right?) would be more suitable to capture a person ?

For example the pictures of her are made with a really long (white) lens (very expensive I guess)
And the blurriness of the background is exactly what I want to achieve.
Is there a cheaper way to get pictures with this amount of blurriness ? or do I just have to save money to buy a qualitative lens...
thanks again!
Thanks for every answer.!!

What you're after is a bokeh, the only way of achieving this is by having your subject closer to your camera, and a large draw distance from the subject to the background. Focus on the subject in the foreground and play about with the distance you are from the subject. You obviously need to have a low aperture to decrease the draw distance. You can achieve similar results on a 50mm lens if you know what you are doing.

You will be able to get images like those with the lens you have. You need a very shallow depth of field for that and f/1.8 is perfect.
Though the first one looks edited a bit.

Depth of field is a function of lens focal length, distance to subject, and aperture.
With your 50mm, shoot wide open (f/1.8), and as close as possible to get the shallowest depth of field, and the most "blurry" backgrounds.
Peace.
