Is haggis illegal in the US?
I've heard that haggis is illegal to sell/make in the US. This is not good news as I am currently in Scotland but will be missing the stuff when I go home to America. I am wondering if there is any truth to this rumor or if I will be able to import it into the US? At the very least could I make my own by getting in touch with a butcher and procuring the necessary...parts? Help me out, my fiancee and I will be missing haggis when we go back to the states, is there anything we can do aside from go back to Scotland to have more?

you can also buy it canned online and in some stores

You can buy a version of haggis in the USA, but it is not the same as you get here in Scotland. They are not made with the full sheep's pluck as the USDA has not allowed sheep lungs to be used in manufacture for decades. You can't import a made haggis and you can't (commercially) make it.
So you can get it, sort of... as long as you don't mind that it isn't the real thing and possibly wouldn't even be allowed to be marketed as haggis back here.
Every few years the US government gets petitioned about it, so maybe one day!

I don't see why it would be illegal. You can buy the ingredients from most grocery stores, although you may need to go to a dedicated butcher (not the guy at the supermarket) if you want a whole stomach and not one that's been cut up at all.
