if I want to write a story based in another authors "realm" how would I do it?
say I have a story I want to write and is in xanth, or in another series,if I wanted to get it published would I need permission from the author?
i had a good story going & it kept going ack to another authors influence,,have decided to build my own thanks!

Yes, you would need permission, and no, they wouldn't give it.
It would be fanfic. Fanfic includes using other authors' uniquely created worlds and universes, even if all
the characters are your own. For instance, if someone wrote a story and set it on Tatooine, even if it contained none of George Lucas' characters, it would still be Star Wars fanfic.
