Why do religious people cite scripture as proof of their beliefs?
Religious people are always citing scripture as proof of god or their religious dogma. Scripture has never been proven to be anything other than the writings of ancient man, with absolutely no proof that any of it is the "inspired word of god" let alone the fact that there is no other evidence of the existence of any gods.

People who do so consider the Bible to be an authoritative reference on the topic of God - just like you probably consider a dictionary to be an authoritative reference on the topic or English word meanings, and just like physicists and chemists consider the CRC to be an authoritative reference on the properties of materials..
The Bible cannot prove anything unless you accept it as an authoritative reference - just as a dictionary cannot prove anything unless you accept it as an authoritative reference, and the CRC cannot prove anything unless you accept it as an authoritative reference..

Many religious Scientists use both science and the scriptures. More Scientists now are believers than ever because of "Product of Design" that is found in everything. As technology progressed and they could peer into things more they see great design which they feel would be mathematical impossible to all happen by chance.
Keep up with Science much????
Like many old Doctors who don't/can't keep up with ALL in the medical field (they are so busy with their actual practice) , many in science don't keep up neither.
But that is happening. '
You might want to look that up how many scientists are now turning to the idea of a Designer of some sorts to the facts of "Product of Design"
Not all accept it but many do now and give/use both science and scriptures as facts
You do know many discoveries were made that were first made in science came from scriptures writings. Quite a study on that -you might want to research on your own and study up on . But if people are happy with what they think they know and don't care to doing any more research and new findings than stay in ignorance--many do that to. Many do that even in the science field

The Bible claims to have been authorized and inspired of God over an established period of over 1,600 years through the writing of 40 different men of many walks of life, the majority of whom did not collaborate their writings with one another because of living in different time periods. Yet, the Bible is harmonious, accurate, and withstands the test of time. It is truly a book like no other on earth. It is to be taken seriously, since it does claim divine inspiration. The Bible is scientifically, morally, historically, biologically, astronomically, socially, and prophetically accurate to an uncanny degree. All that it contains gives proof of inspiration. People today can follow its laws and principles and benefit even today. There is plenty of evidence of the existence of God all around you, including you, that God exists. Not to acknowledge this as evidence is truly "inexcusable". Romans 1:20

I never offer anyone ''proof' of God and I never cite scriptures to ''prove'' any such thing either. The proof I have for me is not necessarily a proof for anyone else that does not negate it from being MY proof.
There are proofs in scriptures whether you choose to believe them or not is your own business, it makes zero difference to me what you believe or don't. Scientific proofs over and over again are shown in the Quran hundreds of years before ''man'' discovered them. So I need not give you proof of my believe, I care not what you think of my belief be it ridiculous or valid, your opinion means zip to me. So next time you want to go generalising about people of faith perhaps you should add the word ''some'' ya think?

an exceedingly honest answer. There are some philosophy/theology arguments which may be made, alongside with: it somewhat is logical that a door, a table, or somewhat any "factor" implies a writer, because of the fact as all of us be attentive to doors do no longer make themselves." So, introduction (the universe) begs the question, "who created this." of direction, we've the large bang which posits that something got here from no longer something, and then there is the counter-argument, "properly, who created God?" As a spiritually minded man or woman, i've got faith that faith is approximately faith. it somewhat is provided on good judgment and perception of the international, yet a number of that perception is emotional/intuitive. whilst reading the Bahai writings, religious, philosophical and poetic, i replaced into touched. something interior me reported, "it is the certainty." It replaced right into a mix of emotional and psychological aspects that led me to that end, and yet somebody else reading a similar textual content ought to come away with diverse conclusions. In precis, although i've got faith there is obtrusive of God (finding on your philosophical assumptions), i do no longer think that good judgment and materialistic assertion on my own grant us with data of God. If it replaced into obtrusive and straightforward, then it does no longer characterize an act of religion to have faith, that's the factor.

Were you aware that generalizations like yours are the language of fools?
There are billions of "religious people" following all kinds of beliefs . . . and
you can't speak for them all. You don't know them, will never know 99.99%
of them . . . and so your childish premise fell down in the first few words.
My beliefs are grounded in experiences, which the patterns written in the
scriptures confirm. That's the end of it... I don't care what you think about it.
I don't "owe" you any proof or evidence, as it's none of your business. K?

because they think that because the bible describes some historically documented events, and because there is POSSIBLE proof that Jesus existed then that must make everything in the bible 100% true.

It's all they've got. By that argument, I could use Harry Potter as proof witches and wizards exist.

Because most people always say "where does it say that?"
Second, the bible wasn't written by one man.
Third, the majority of scholars -- believers and unbelievers -- do agree that Jesus existed.
