Photoshop CS5 activation problem?

I bought a new Photoshop CS5 box off of ebay.  It was not tampered with in any way and it says the activation code is valid, and it will be used for Adobe Photoshop CS5.1... but when I click "next" it says "The serial number you entered is valid, but a qualifying product cannot be found on this computer"
and it gives me a dropdown list giving me different Photoshops and says I have to put in a serial number for that given product aswell.  I bought this photoshop to install, not to upgrade anything! I don't have photoshop. :( Can someone please help me?  Is this the wrong box? In case box looks do matter.. it's a white box with blue letters.  It slides open and the box inside is also blue.

Sad to say UPG = Upgrade. You have indeed bought the wrong version.

You would need to have CS2, 3 or 4 already installed on your rig, 
for this upgrade to be effective, that's why you're being asked for a qualifying product key.

You're now between a rock and a hard place I'm afraid.

Unfortunately for you, I can't suggest any easy way out of this dilemma,
short of contacting the ebay seller and PRAYING they'll refund you.
Realistically, I wouldn't hold my breath though, as the packaging is no longer sealed!!

All you can do is try to sell the disk to a family member or close friend who wants to upgrade, as nobody else is likely to trust that it's a legit transaction.

If anyone else does respond to this question, 
maybe they'll come up with a  'magic wand'  solution.

Another thought, post this question again in a few days time.
Who knows, someone may reply with an inspired method of resolving this issue.

First step: Don't try to buy Adobe software off of eBay - you never know what you're going to get, usually fake and/or dangerous and/or not as represented... hope you can get your money back
