2008 ford truck won't start in the cold?

i have a 2008 ford f-150 with the 5.4 triton engine in it. the last few days here have been cold -30 as a high and even though my truck has been plugged in all night it's not starting, it's not even turning over all it does it click a bit. i thought at first it was just the command start because i was able to go out and start it later but today i just tried with the key and it wouldn't start.

before it got cold we got close to a foot of snow and i had to go driving through that, not sure if that and then this deep cold worked together to cause me grief or what.

Update:

the battery seems good, when it does start it starts fine, it doesn't take a long time or anything like that. nothing seems to show that the battery is dying

Update 2:

i must apologize makho i reported your answer because it made no sense and for some reason appeared before david's did, with his answer it makes sense, if i could take back the report i would

could be a simple battery issue if you still have the factory battery especially they usually last 4-5 years so that could be it ford fires a coil every time you hit the key that way if the crank sensor goes bad after a few tries it will crank.plus a bad sensor wont cause it to not turn over so a battery or starter issue is most likely

I think you're on the right path with the crankshaft position sensor since there is no spark. He needs to make sure the gap is correct as well.
