Will my cat stop crying when I'm gone?

For the first time this Christmas I left my cat alone for a longer period: 13 days.

She's used to spending a weekend on her own, every now and then, and I had someone coming by every day (a professional pet sitter and my neighbour in turns).

However, halfway through my vacation, the other neighbour called me at 8 o'clock in the morning, to tell me that the cat is constantly meowing and is obviously sad. When I returned I saw that the cat is fine, as its nanny had already assured me; however, the first neighbour, who paid her visits, said that the other one even screamed "shut up!" on one of the days.

The vet said the cat is ok and that I shouldn't bother, but I have no intention of annoying the others, particularly since we help each other on various occasions.

However, I'll leave again in April for 10 days...

I was thinking of asking the neighbour to be patient, as the cat might get used to a longer absence. But will it be the case? Can I do something to help it?

Fyi, most of my friends are allergic and pensions are too expensive where I live. Plus I'd rather avoid moving the cat around too much...

Thanks.

Update:

The cat is 10 months old and I've had her for 2 months. She's a very loving cat, needy, playful, we sleep together and she obviously enjoys my company. Whether I'm knitting, on the phone, cooking, eating... she's there!

Update 2:

She's very healthy and sterilised. She started crying after 4 days alone, and then each time her visitors left.

Update 3:

I'm not away a lot, just using the vacation I'm entitled to...

I think you need another cat to keep her company- she must be very lonely.

Try a heated bed so she has a cosy space, or leave a radio on and make sure she has plenty of toys.

13 days is a long time- your cat might think she's going to be alone for the rest of her life! she won't understand whats happening.

" If you want to cut down on attention-seeking meows, stop responding when it happens. Only give her attention when she’s quiet. If she starts to meow again, look or walk away. But don’t ignore your pet. Spend quality time each day with her, playing, grooming, and talking to her. When you go on vacation put a bird feeder outside a window she can watch. Leave foraging toys out with food inside. Get her a kitty condo and rotate different toys that you leave out for play." The cat may not completely stop mowing you are the mother to it and it yearns for a great bonding relationship. However, these may be a few things that can help distract it when you leave.

Book it in to a cattery next time you go away,it sounds like your cat sitters are fighting over the cat, maybe you should not have an animal if you go away so much. One sitter would probably be better than involving more people, that can confuse the cat, especially as you haven't had her long, she barely knows you, especially if you keep going away!

She's missing you obviously. I don't understand why you can't put her in a cattery when you go on holiday. If you can afford to go on holiday then surely you can afford a cattery. I think you are being selfish leaving her on her own. Why did you get a cat?

Your cat obviously doesn't like being alone.

Kinda stupid having a pet if you're going to leave it on its own a lot.

take your cat with you or dont go, seems your cat loves you very much and when your not around gets very said and lonely, if you really have to go, than let him or her be with family, if it were me, i wouldnt go at all knowing my cat was that sad without me. i just couldnt live with myself if i went away to come home and see he or she died of a broken heart.

Poor, poor puddy tat she must be awfully wonely. Some animals have "separation anxiety"
