Is it better to look like an idiot because you tried and failed, or a coward because you failed to try?

And let's say, for the sake of the question, the thing you're trying to succeed at won't end up getting yourself killed. So no 'it's better to be an alive coward than a dead idiot' type answers.

I rarely think people look like idiots when they try, unless they're doing something completely out of their league.  (Like "I'm going to run a marathon tomorrow, despite the fact that I haven't trained and haven't run a mile since high school.")  But if you genuinely put forth an effort, that speaks volumes to me.

I believe that it is better to be a failed idiot but i still do the never try coward thing. If you fail a lot of times, then why try anymore? Id go with never try coward but still.....

Trying and failing doesn't make you an idiot,  but,  failing to try makes you look like a coward and an idiot.        How about that.
