Is it common for cats to change color over time?

When I adopted my cat in April 2010, she was a two-year-old silver tabby with brownish eyes. I did change her diet from what the shelter fed her (sort of transitioning her). She is now a brownish tabby with green eyes.

What causes this? Is it common for cats to change color over time like this?

My grey striped tabby lost her stripes when she got older and my orange tabby lost hers when she hit middle age. That probably doesn't help but at least your not alone.

Yes, it is normal for some cats to change color slightly over time. The skin and coat of a cat may sometimes change color or become lighter or darker. This may be a normal process, or may be due to a serious disease. If the skin or coat has a color other than white, it is said to be 'pigmented.' Colors include brown, black, red, purplish-blue, and yellow. If the skin is a darker color than normal, it is said to be 'hyperpigmented.'

The link below is a table that provides a list of the majority of the conditions which are associated with pigment change.

Yes! It is VERY possible that they change colors! My kitten was plain white when i got her and now shes all gray. You wouldn't believe how common this is in cats. Every single cat I've ever gotten has changed colors and it's completely normal. It's causes by DNA and genetic change it's completely normal nothing to worry about.

I have never heard of then changing colors, but I have seen them get darker. Have you ever thought of the possibility that it is a different cat?
