Weren't the slave owners generous people, since if it hadn't been for them, their slaves wouldn't have had...?

... food and shelter? And how is this different from the "The rich are generous people, since without them, no one would have a job" argument?

Update:

@Jim: I'm not trolling, I'm being completely serious about this. It IS the same exact argument.

I can't believe how many people don't get it. Most people don't have the job they have because they want to. They are forced into employment through economic conditions. It is slavery, but instead of the threat of the whip, you have the threat of poverty and famine. It isn't different from the other argument, but they don't get it, because they still believe in the delusion that they are able to reach the top. They find it acceptable because they have been raised to believe it is acceptable. They have failed to take their own path. They are just another slave, unaware of the world as it is.

This is, by far, one of THE most asinine arguments I have ever had the displeasure of responding to.

Slaves were forced into slavery. That is - in and of itself - an indisputable difference against your, at best, flimsy and arrogant argument.

Also - to argue that "The rich" are generous people because they create jobs - is simple minded and naive. "The Rich" are a necessary part of our economy and they are good FOR our economy because, yes. Yes. They do create jobs. That is just how it is. That makes them neither generous nor greedy. That is a personal trait not to be assigned based on the wealth a person does or does not have.

I doubt the argument you've tried to make here would hold up in a tenth grade government class. My 12 year old could see the holes in this.

This is twisted logic. Yes, slaves did have the necessities for survival, but were treated poorly.

I don't see how that relates to the job market.

Wage Slavery is accepted by society because the general masses believe they will be the buisness. owner one day- which is a pipe dream the same pipe some poor people smoke crack cocaine with because they understand how america's capitlisitic society screws people like them over.

Slavery: the final stage of socialism.

Idiot, they would have still been Africa being slaves to to the other tribe.

Slaves were not stolen, they were sold by blacks.
