Why do we always have to be better than everyone else?

It was not always like this, it will not always be like this. Peasants rarely ask if they are better peasants than the guys in other village. Most people on vacation don't worry if the person in the cabin next door is getting more light reading done than they are. But capitalism is founded on the myth that society and our collective economy is comprised of individuals in conflict, not classes in conflict. The capitalist state does lots of very specific and powerful things to ensure that we look to our natural comrades as enemies, and the authority figures that are our class adversaries, as our patrons.

Because it's reinforced. Reinforced by money, reinforced by social rejection, reinforced by social acceptance, reinforced bullying and disrespect, and other reinforcements.

We don't want to be better than others, we want to be equal. If a person comes from an environment where people disrespected him for being poor and unemployed, he'll go back when he's rich as hell, and flash his nice car, his hot wife, his 5000 dollar suit, and the 1000 of dollars in his hand. And he doesn't stop, he goes back every week.

Most people don't want to be better than anyone, they want to be "up there" with the wealthy, experienced, and victorious. Instead expressing your superiority, help the beginners get where you are because they'll contribute the society.

There is no human nature. The human is a product of conditioning. They did a study on mice and they knocked out a gene and the mice had learning difficulties. This study got picked up everywhere by the media left and right. What didn't picked up was when the Mice was put in a nurturing and supportive environment with other intelligent and social mice and given mental challenging tasks to stimulate it's brain, and it became as intelligent as all the other mice.

People say it's human nature like they've studied for years on it, but the truth is they've just blindly accepted the idea as fact from the sources they've heard it from (E.g. Tv, parents, word of mouth, etc)

I agree with you. I call it the Jones syndrome. The "Jones" have everything so everybody who lives on the same street has to try and 1 up the Jones. I hate it too.

Welcome to the real world. I'm not trying to condescend you, by the way, so I apologize if I'm coming off like that. It's just human nature to try and strive to be better than everyone else.

And it's okay to be sick of it, you'll be dead and rid of it in due time.

Fear of inferiority is my best guess. They are afraid that people are going to see them in a negative light, so they strive to be better than everyone else.

It doesent matter what otherz do just be yourself everyone else is alredy taken
