human nature stays constant , people will behave in a predictable manner depending on the stimuli their exposed to.

By studying the past you would be able to understand the reasons behind a certain incident and how it would have been avoided or enhanced basing on whether it had a positive effect or a negative. Therefore by studying the past you are equipped with tools that may enable you conquer future problems or integrate into it. It does not necessarily mean you predict the future.

O course we can study the past and compare the similar conditions so we can predict the future. But nothing is absolute.
