Do you think that someday acquiring knowledge will replace acquiring material possessions?
...or will we melt into the sun before that?

Yes--but not in our lifetimes.
BTW: that's not an idealistic hope. The long-term trend in technological productivity is my reason. I do NOT mean 5 or 10 years. Think 100 years, or more. Nor do I mean the access to knowledge provide by modern information systems.
Productivity will eventually reach a point where the level of human effort required (the labor input) is so small that most people will get More out of spending most of their time doing things other than working for a living.
Now, some will undoubtedly choose activities that are less uplifting than pursuing knowledge. But scrambling after material possessions won't be one of them. One definite benefit: when (not if) an economic system based on plenty instead of scarcity develops, the existing conservative ideology that places profit above all other values will die a well-deserved adn overdue death.

You need material possessions to apply that knowledge effectively. I sincerely hope we figure out how to use what we have efficiently and wisely before things degenerate into the kind of circle j... into the kind of thing you're talking about.

It already has for some of us. If you're ready for humanitys next phase, then evolve. We are at the point in history where we can actively direct our brain programming.

What would the poor dumb people, sorry liberals do then? How would they be able to get a "fair share" of what others worked to learn?
