Can you undo the action of saving a file when by thus doing you have replaced another file?

Question

I just worked for a few hours on a project in InDesign and then saved the file. I then by mistake saved another file under the same name and same location, and when prompted whether I was sure that I wanted to replace the file, I chose 'yes'. Is there any way of retrieving the original file which I had saved? All help is much appreciated!

Usually programs save all changes to a new temporary file, and then delete your old file and rename the new file with the name of the original file.

Operating system do not delete the contents of the file, they just mark it as space available.

Your best chance is if you do not do anything in that computer until you can run an utility that can "undelete" the file.
