So atheist do GOOD things out of the kindness of their heart and christians do it cause they want something?

From what I have seen here, I am astounded at the number of christians that do not understand doing something good for the sake of doing good. Is that really just so inconceivable to them?

Not at all. I cannot speak for every Christian (*cough*like you did*cough*) but I do the right thing because it is God's will and I love God with all my heart, more than anything else in existence. When the Bible references the fear of God, it doesn't mean fear of going to Hell! By "fear," it means "respect." It makes me cringe, how many people I've seen applying modern definitions to Old English words in the Bible and calling us all hypocrites. Now, I can't speak for every Christian, but those who hold to the teachings of the Bible do what's right for love of Him who created us. There are Christians who do what's right out of fear of going to Hell but I don't believe that most of us are like that and I know that if your reasons for doing what's right are selfish, then you're not really doing the right thing.

I am an atheist and I do good things because I'm a human being and I believe that as a social species we should help each other for the good of society.

I am a Pantheist and believe in Karma a Reincarnation and do it for brownie points to make sure I get a better life in the next one. I also happen to think God is an *sshole, so I'm good out of spite. If God would punish me because I insult it and I am good, it aint worth worshiping.

Christians, as I understand by the bible, do good things cause the want to go to heaven or for fear of going to hell. Interestingly they keep saying this is morality when it clearly isn't. Doing something for the betterment of oneself is selfishness, doing something for the betterment of others is morality.

However, I'm not saying all christians do this, its just my understanding from what I've read in the bible.

We try to follow Christ's example of kindness. We have hope of heaven of course but that has nothing to do with it.

So you can judge the motives of all Christians?

Those types of statements show you do not know what you are talking about.

A little of both I think (the christian part.) People will say "what a good christian person," but you never hear "oh what a good atheist." Religion is all about arrogance and ego.

We do "good" thing because it makes sense, Christians do it because the big shy daddy well send them to hell otherwise, they also kill people for the same reason

atheists do good things because they are the good things to be done. and it makes me happy to do good things

christians do good things out of fear of God
