Do you give your toddler vitamins?

My daughter is typically a good eater, and I always offer her a good variety of foods through out the day, but I do let her self feed and so she picks what she wants. My mum mentioned that when we were younger all children over 6 months were offered vitamin drops, and I can honestly say that I never even considered it, it got me thinking, should i be giving her some sort of multi vitamin supplement as a back up? I know they are not a replacement for a good balanced diet, an I will always offer her a good variety of healthy foods (with the occasional treat).

Do you give your LO a multi vitamin?

Is there any reason why I shouldn't?

Vitamins give you cancer? ha, that was a good laugh. Let's see the 'study'!

Anyways, I occasionally give my two year old a vitamin if he hasn't eaten very good for the day. I offer him healthy choices but he can be picky at times. So if I feel like he hasnt had all the proper nutritian in a day then I give him one :)

    Best of luck

Vitamins are a waste of money and the body doesn't absorb them properly. There are also some studies that have been done which show that vitamins can cause cancer.

Continue to feed your daughter a diet that is high in fruit and veg with lots of protein, calcium and everything else. You are doing the right thing. Vitamins are not good or beneficial.

It's not necessary. I don't know any doctor who recommends giving a toddler vitamins. If its not a widely recommended thing - it can't be overly beneficial or we would all be told to use them?

My 2 year old eats a balanced diet (with the occasional treat) same as yours. To ensure he gets all the vitamins he needs, I give him 1-2 cups of toddler formula. I don't give him cows milk (mainly because, he's lactose intolerant) but he does get a cup of soy milk each day.

Rather than vitamins, i'd recommend a cup of toddler formula - read the label - its full of every vitamin you can think of. I'd recommend that over vitamin drops.

It won't hurt and I think its a good idea. Our food is very depleted in vitamins these days and unless you grow your own or eat only organic fruit and veg a good quality multi vitamin will not go amiss and supplement with fish oils is a good idea for all ages.

Yes, I do - I started because she was prem and the doc asked the nurses to give it to her whilst at hospital. I do it now just to make myself feel better - and she likes it. It's cheap - I don't see why I shouldn't.
