Are children born in US arrogant to the same extent to their elders so that they feel it a matter of shame to?

Are children born in US arrogant to the same extent to their elders so that they feel it a matter of shame to get their mathematics corrected by anyone from a developing country?

    Depends on the individual and their background, like most things. There are people both open-minded and closed minded, like anywhere. However, I wouldn't generalize. I feel it's just as possible that perhaps they are only reacting to the teacher. Perhaps the teacher should re-think how they correct the students.

    I feel as though this is more a question of philosophy, as opposed to mathematics.

    Based on you loosely throwing the term arrogant, I'm going to assume, you're more likely than not, not from America, which would explain why you would ask that.

    There is no reason any person should be ashamed of being corrected in mathematics.

    i.e. People theorize that since a neutrino moved faster than the speed of light (according to the machines that tracked this speed), and a neutrino is a particle, even if it has nearly zero mass, that it would disprove Einstein's theory of relativity (which, if it did in fact pass the speed of light, it would.)

    Should we be ashamed that we've used a false formula for ages (if it is in fact false)? No! We should be happy we discovered otherwise!

    Learn from your experiences.

    Edit:

    According to WolframAlpha, which I trust a lot more than any math I could accomplish, there is no possible solutions to the link you just posted. Though, your answer makes more sense to me. Albeit, I'm only in Pre-Calculus.

    Edit:

    Ahh! He's right. I wasn't paying attention. You can't have an absolute value under 0!

    I've checked the link.

    Regardless of where you're from, I agree with the other contributors that you are wrong. The absolute value can not be negative, therefore the equation has no solution. Simple as that.

    #### EDIT #####

    Further to what I said above, let me comment on your 'solution'.

    you said:

    Let, |5x - 6| = y ;

    y = - (5x - 6) ....................(1)

    y = (5x - 6) .......................(2)

    PLEASE NOTE that your equation (1) is only true if (5x - 6) is negative

    and your equation (2) is only true if (5x - 6) is non-negative.

    your mathematical reasoning has not included these restrictions.

    #### FURTHER EDIT #####

    the question was solve: |5x - 6| < 0

    your solution was: - 6/5 < x < 6/5

    Let's see if your solution works.

    The value x = 0 is right in the middle of your solution range for x, so x=0 must satisfy |5x - 6| < 0

    substituting:

    |5*0 - 6| = |-6| = 6 which is NOT less than zero.

    Do we have to do anything else to convince you?

    I don't think it has anything to do with arrogance. I read the question you answered, about absolute values. You were wrong, it's that simple. I am not insulting your intelligence or any developing country at all, you simply made an error in answering this person's question about |5x - 6|. If you look back at the question, you'll see that the best-chosen answer was actually correct, and this explains why yours was not chosen. I am not trying to be mean, but next time double-check your answer before blaming someone, or someone's culture. Good luck on further answers!

    Your question is arrogant in itself, and shows even more ignorance than the imaginary population you are stereotyping. I'm from the US, and I don't know anyone who would feel ashamed getting their math corrected by someone from a different country.

    I'm getting really sick of the negative view of US citizens. We aren't all fat, racist, stupid rednecks who hide behind Bibles and drink beer while shooting guns off our back porch. And we definitely aren't all arrogant idiots. You'd be surprised to find out that the US is more racially and culturally aware than most others.

    Learn about our country before you make unfounded claims.
