1. Seattles a very nice city full of lots of different people. Seattle is a very green city, and the state of Washington in general focuses on helping potect the planet from the growing pollution problems. We are a largerly democratic city and enviromental protection is very important to help preserve our ocean waters and rain forests. The University of Washington (located in Seattle) was just given high honors by Sierra Magazine, a magazine focused on enviromental issues, for being amazing for the enviroment thanks to the school's dedication to being a green university.
2. The people of Seattle are very diverse and very excepting of all different races, genders, and sexual preferences. The majority of Seattle citizens do not judge and are generally "live and let live" kinds of people. Seattle is home to major corrperations such as Microsoft and is called home by some of the richest people in the world, including multi-billionaire Bill Gates. Although not as public or home to as many movie stars as Hollywood, Seattle, and it's surrounding areas, are home to an equal amount of millionaires and billionaires who make their money through buisness rather than the entertainment industry. There is a pride parade every year to help those citizens of Seattle who are gay/lesbian/bi/etc. celebrate that their sexuality is not as heavily judged as it is currently in other parts of the nation. There are many cultural celebrations throughout the year, as Seattle is home to many people who come from different countries or cultures.
3. I would highly recommend studying graphic deisgn in Seattle. As it is birthplace of Microsoft, here there are many great graphic design classes. People from all over the world come to the University of Washington to study abroad in computer sciences, such as graphic design, or in the arts do to the cities art-friendly atmosphere as well as the chance to get close to the Microsoft coorporation. University of Washington is one of the best universities in the country and has a very good reputation.
4. While grunge is known to have come from the Seattle area in the 80s, there isn't so much of it left these days. There is still some interest in small indie type music groups among famous bars around Seattle who wish to keep up the "different" local music tradition, such as El Corazon. But, in general Seattle prefers the chart topers. Lady Gaga concerts sell out the first day the box office opens and, thanks to the internet, most Seattle residents depend on the top 100 list on itunes to discover new music rather than local concerts. As far as grunge fashion is concerned, sometimes people don't understand that Seattle is both cold and wet in the winter. The hats, boots, and various other (sometimes misconstued as "grunge") clothing we wear is not for a fashion statement, but rather because we're usually cold and wet, but don't wish to look like big poofy snowmen walking around. We layer out of fashion necessity.
5. Seattle is on average expensive. The price can drastically change depending on the view of your residence or where the residence is located, but in general the city of Seattle is more expensive than most people can handle. Studying abroad will most likely garantee you a much lower living cost, as flat rates for dorms (especially for study abroad students) are usually much lower than an apartament would be, making being a student easier for those without much money.
6. Although it has a reputation for being rainy, this isn't necessarily true. Most of the cities rain-fall occurs between the end of September through February. From late July to the middle of September Seattle has warmer weather reaching into the 90s on it's warmest days with very little rain-fall. The rain throughout the year helps keep the air in Seattle fresh and clean, and the city streets are naturally cleaned by the weather which helps make Seattle one of the cleanest cities in the US.

what's seattle like? Depends on the neighborhood. Lots of scary homeless people. Lots of Asians. Public transportation is ok.
what are the people like? Nice but they really do not want to meet new people. The exception is men want to meet attractive women no matter who they are.
would you recommend studying in seattle? No
is there still a grunge scene?? No, the music scene is mostly dead because of various issues. Mostly the city is too expensive for musicians and many of the live music venues have closed. Not as much all ages venues as their used to be.
and is seattle very expensive? Americans think Seattle is expensive but it isnt compared to Europe.
whats the weather like? People say it rains a lot but it really doesent. Mostly it is overcast with a constant drip. Usually one week in August is perfect and it might snow 3 days per year.

I am going to go along with everything that Elle said, except the weather. It rains. Expect some rain, almost every day, from late August to June. The rain will vary from heavy to light mist - but it will rain.
Seattle is a very cosmopolitan city with a very active night life. It also sits on two major bodies of water, the Puget Sound (ocean water) and Lake Washington (fresh water) for water sports. You are about an hour drive to the mountains for skiing. There are ample opportunities to hunt, fish, camp, hike, and just enjoy the outdoors - all within an hour or two of the city. There are several Universities, including the UW so there is an active academic life. You will find music from garage bands to philharmonic, drama from the avant-gard to opera, and every type of art you can imagine. If you have a day to kill and nothing to do, catch a ferry in Puget Sound and take a couple of hour's boat ride. Fly kites off the tail of the ferry. Cheap fun! If you have more time, and a bit more spending money, take the ferry to Victoria and take a step back in history. Have tea at the Victoria Inn. It is an experience not to be missed.
There are wonderful restaurants, clubs, bars, and everything in-between. Enjoy! It is a really neat city.

Seattle is a great place to live. I have lived here 20 years. People mostly complain about the rain. It is actually not that bad only 4 month of the year it is grey. There are plenty of indoor activities to enjoy.

As a born and raised Seattlite, i think of the climate gets a foul rap. advantageous we've a superb form of cloudy, drizzly days (noticeably in November and December) yet merely as you start to fall ill of it, there is often an surprising wreck in the climate. In February, there is mostly a week of chilly, sparkling days. Then in the spring to boot. i think having by no potential lived everywhere else, i do no longer understand what it might desire to be like, even though it does not difficulty me. i individually omit the rain in the summertime. As for shifting to Seattle, you will desire to understand that we've a recognition for no longer being very sturdy chum makers. all of us flow from abode to artwork and back back. we've our very own acquaintances and could be superficially friendly with new human beings, yet no longer invite them into our circle. this is referred to as a Nesting subculture.
