1. Find the nth term of this sequence :

5,7,9,11, n

Answer is n = 13

Why:

The difference between 5 to 7 is +2

The difference between 7 to 9 is +2

The difference between 9 to 11 is +2

Therefore, each number in the series will be +2

n = 11 + 2

n = 13

2. Find the nth term of this sequence :

1/2 , 2/3 , 3/4 , 4/5, n

Answer: n = 5/6

Why:

Observe the sequence as a whole,

1/2 is then followed by 2/3 which is then followed by 3/4 and then 4/5

The pattern is the denominator (the number at the bottom) becomes the top number (the numerator) of the next sequence. If this was the alphabet it would go a/b, b/c, c/d...etc

Therefore after 4/5, n = 5/6

3, Find the nth term of this sequence :

3.5 , 5 , 6.5 , 8 , 9.5, n

Answer is n = 11

The difference between 3.5 to 5 is +1.5

The difference between 5 to 6.5 is +1.5

The difference between 8 to 9.5 is +1.5

Therefore, each number in the series will be +1.5

n = 9.5 + 1.5

n = 11
