My Dell inspiron will not charge?

My charger broke so i bought a new charger and it won't charge my laptop it will only give enough charge to keep my laptop alive. As soon as it gets unplugged the laptop dies

    Check your battery. make sure it is in securely and the connection is clean. depending on the age of the laptop, the battery could be worn out.
