Parents with little girls?

I'm looking into starting a business for like hair, makeup, face painting, and nails at girl's parties, sleepovers, etc. As parents how much would you be willing to pay for someone to come and do these services at the party or whichever? I would bring all my own supplies and you could pick and choose which services you would like. What do you think is a fair price to charge? I'm in highschool so obviously I'm not a professional but that doesn't mean I'm not good. I got this idea because peers would pay me to do their prom hair and makeup.

Thanks so much for your imput! :)

Update:

I mean I respect your opinions and in someways agree, but I mean for fun once in a while I think it's fine. I agree, little girls wearing makeup everyday is completely inappropriate. and I am an active member in my church youth group and I volunteer at a theuraputic riding stable for kids with disabilities btw.

That sounds like a great idea for a high school teen to make money! And plus I'd think the girls would love it too.

It depends whatever service/package they would pick and how long you would stay there.

    Examples:

Hair/makeup/nails package: $25 dollars per girl so if there were say 10 girls, that would be $250 total. I'd say charge it by child.

Hair/face painting package: $20 per girl would be $200 since it would be less.

    Hair/Face painting/Nails/Makeup package: $30 per girl would be $300

So those are all examples of things you would do.

    Sounds fun to me!

Also if you say you're not like amazing at doing that stuff but you're not bad, then you might want to charge $10 or $5 dollars less, and since you're just in high school.

I'm not trying to be rude or disrespectful to your idea but when I was a kid either having or attending slumber parties part of the fun was everyone bringing what little make up they had and trying it out on each other. Then, of course, we'd have some sort of fashion show or lip syncing contest once we got our hair, nails, and make up done. No one was interested in learning how to do it right as we were just having fun.

If you are talented with hair/make up you should get into a program to refine your skills and make a business out of it geared towards a salon or as a make up artist. I don't think you'll have much success with this idea beyond family and friend.

That's a very good idea. A friend of mine over in London has just set up a very successful business doing just that. She provides girly packages where you can get your hair/nails/facepaint for birthdays etc for girls slumber parties. I know she charges about $250-$300 for 3 hours work, and there's usually about 6 girls, maybe you could charge less because you're new. And ignore the haters, it's a good idea!

That is not a service I would pay for. My children do not wear make up or have their nails done on a regular basis. They do have a few non-toxic nail polish bottles to have fun with at home, a chest of clothes and costumes to play dress up, and if they ask I can do their hair for free. I would not want make up on my children's faces. Perhaps lip gloss to have fun every now and then, but other things are too aggressive for young skins. If I can do it myself at home, for free, why would I pay for it? Besides, paying for something like that takes away the casual, innocent feeling of dressing up at home, and turns into an adult mani-pedi day-at-the-spa affair. I am not comfortable with that.

I am curious, would you offer the same services to little boys?

so if my daughter was 7 and i wanted to give her a make-up party - i would hire you ?

how much would i pay for that ?

    hmmm.

    for like 5 kids :

$20 dollars an hour per every 5 kids.

for instance if i had 10 kids i would pay $40 dollars an hour. etc. etc.

    BUT that's just me.

since you're just starting out :

    go with

$10 dollars per every five kids per hour.

for 10 kids you'd charge $20 dollars an hour etc. etc.

I honestly wouldn't pay anything, all of the things you mentioned above can be done by myself for free plus I wouldn't feel comfortable having someone else in my house. Some people might enjoy that kind of thing though, maybe charge $20 an hour which includes the cost of supplies.

I would have said nothing although for a little girls birthday party it sounds like a sweet idea.

    Maybe:

    Nails: 10/per girl

    Hair: 15/per girl

    Makeup: 10/per girl

    Or 30 for everything?

Tarting up little girls with used make-up? I'd pay you to stay away.

Seriously, I would urge you to think about ways in which you could make a valuable contribution to society instead of dragging it further down in the gutter. It is one thing for little girls to play with make-up on their own; another for older females to normalise and encourage it and 'educate' them and so on.

Perhaps your local hospital could use a volunteer; along http://lookgoodfeelbetter.org/ lines?

If you just want cash -- stick with the peer group, look into continuing education courses for adults at night schools, go pro, do weddings &c...

...please read what Karen S wrote. That was how parties I went to were, too. An older person coming along and doing it for them sends a very different message.

I am not an anti-make-up weirdo; my daughter is only 4 and has a pile of the stuff and has had it for a couple of years now. I let her play with it now and then before a bath; sometimes she does my face. Loads of fun. But a party with a make-up artist takes this out of the realm of "toy" or "innocent experimentation" and drags it into the adult world; hence my objections.

How liberal is your church; would they book you for make-up tutorials for teens on youth nights...?
