my dog has diarrhea in spurts! please help!?

hi there, my dog missy,a black lab mix, has been having diarrhea in spurts for the last 2 months. i have made a vet appointment for monday to see whats wrong with her.but for now i just want to make sure shes ok. usually when this happens i feed her rice and boiled chicken for a few days until her stool is normal again. then she is fine for about a month and then this happens all over again. her stool is soft, like water.

she is not on any new food, she doesnt get into anything and does not get treats or rawhides. shes normally eats a dry dog food with brown rice and lamb that has no corn in it.

please help!!

oh and shes 2 years old

I agree about the maybe changing her food. Last Summer our new Doberman was having this same problem. Even after treating her for Giardia, which she didn't even test positive for, she still had the problem. She was also taking anti - diarrhea meds for a while with not very good results, so we just started the process of elimination. It turned out that she can not tolerate grains, and after slowly switching her to a grain free food, she was fine, and has been fine ever since. We first put her on Natural Balance, (which she did well on) but then found that Taste of the Wild was a MUCH better food and even a little cheaper. So, you may want to try a grain free diet. (just a thought)

I think you need to change the brand of food.. to what i dont know. buy a few smaller bags of different brands... but buy the most expensive brands.

worms could be a factor but the vet will test the stool and determine that one.

2 months waiting, thats pretty bad. dont wait so long next time.

good luck I hope she gets better quickly.

I think you need to change her food....obviously when you put her back on her regular food she gets the diarrhea.....diarrhea is NOT a sign of worms. When as dog has it as you describe it is from something they ate. IF it was a sign of worms...she would have it all the time, because the worms would be there all the time. But it only happens when you put her back on her regular food. SOOO diet.

Have you had her stools checked for parasites (fecal) - be it worms or protozoa such as Giardia. It sounds as if it's quite possible this may be the trouble.

Sounds like she has worms, well when you take to the vet Monday, they'll be able to give you a diagnosis
