my 97 nissan altima's a/c controller/knob only works at full blast. how can I fix that myself?

so when the dial is set at 1,2 or 3 it doesn't work at all, but when its set to 4 it works fine... blows nice and cold. can I replace the control unit or is this a problem deeper under the hood?

    Sounds like blower speed resistor bad, usually under dash on a/c heater box. Suggest Dealer for repair shouldn't be too expensive, that way you don't mess up something else under dash.
