Why is my outdoor gas grill giving only a low blue flame?
The other day it was working fine, putting out an orange flame that heated the entire grill. Today, even on "high," the flame is burning a low blue flame, like a pilot light, which obviously the outdoor grill doesn't have. how do I fix this? Why is it doing this?

Two things that are possible. One your low on fuel. Second the pressure valve. If you turned the gas tank on and and a burner was turned on this would trigger a safety valve in the pressure regulator. Turn all burners off and also turn the tank off. Now turn on the tank and light the grill. If this fails. Turn everything off disconnect the tank, connect to the tank and see if this works. If this fails you might need to buy a new pressure regulator. Regards, Dale

It could be many things. First your regulator could have gone bad. There is a rubber gasket inside that does go bad once in awhile but I have had mine for over ten years and it hasn't gone bad yet. I think I would turn off your tank, or disconnect your line to the gas valve if it is Natural Gas. Either LP or NG, remove the line. Then pull out the burner and the orifices (on the tips of the valves where the handles are) and clean them out. The orifices could be clogged and so could the burners. Sometimes the burner holes get almost completely clogged up and little things like spider webs get into the orifices and clog them. Check those first and once they have been cleaned out and it still isn't working, get a new regulator for LP. If you have a NG, it shouldn't need a regulator because it is hooked up to your house and that is regulated through the gas company. Also run a small pipe cleaner through the venturi tubes, they might also be clogged with debris. Those are the only things that could possibly be the problem. There isn't anything left! Oh, while you have your burner out, check it for any splits in the seams or cracks. If there are, time for a new burner.

Is it natural gas or propane. If propane, tank is close to empty, but you would know that. If natural gas, might be underground leak, do you smell natural gas occasionally, happened to a friend of mine, pipe broke underground. ????. It might just be in need of a good cleaning. Oh, and if propane and tank is full, might be a bad pressure regulator on the hose that goes from the tank to the BBQ unit. (happened to my dad's grill just a month ago. Home Depot sells new ones for $20 or so. We changed it out and the grill works beautifully again. Not hard to replace.

check the tubing for spiders. they sometimes build nests inside the tubes and slow down the air flow.
