What is the best embroidery machine for home use so I can embroider hats and coats and sweat shirts and that type of thing? Also so I can transfer my own designs to the machine from my computer?

My answer to you would be to shop around. Bernina, Viking Husqvarna, and Paff are all excellent machines. I would not suggest the sewing machine that has been around for years starting with S.
I used to sell embroidery machines. See what options, they have and if they give lessons on how to use it. You can always buy a lovingly used one, as there are new machines coming out with bigger hoops. I love my machine VH, and would recommend it. There is a new one coming out, and I hope to get one someday.
