Only getting cold water in our bathtub ?

The tub in our hall bath has only one knob for both hot and cold water.  Now only cold water comes through no matter what position the knob is in.  Any ideas about what would cause that or how to fix it?

Yep, the cartridge is bad in the valve assembly. Its the does the mixing for the hot and cold. 
In order to replace this you have to shut water off in the whole house. So if you have the master shut off your good. 
Kill water

Remove knob cover center 
Remove screw 
Remove knob
Remove chrome sleeve
Remove retaining clip (that the thing that thats U shaped in the top. that slips down into valve assembly. Thats what holds the cartridge in! ) 
One the clip is out with "firm" pressure pull straight out and the cartridge should come out. 

Reverse order to install, add some soap to the o-rings or plumbers grease when you put the cartridge back in.   ONLY BY OEM dont by the china made ones. Youll end up redoing it in about a year again.
