Why do Libs and Cons waste their time not listening to one another?

OK we had groups of people sitting at tables, 6 or 7 to a group, and we had sheets of "evidence" for a crime to pass around. There were 5 different versions, and we made sure every table had all 5 versions. You could not solve the crime without information from all 5 variants. We did not tell the folk at the tables there were different versions.

We did have other dats, like the extent on the average that they agreed or disagreed with the statement that 94% od all failures were SYSTEM failures (and only 6% therefore human failures).

The tables with a low degree of agreement with that statement wrangled the problem for a full hour without a clue. The tables that had a high degree of agreement with the "system" statement, with one exception, solved the mystery in less than 15 minutes.

Of course when the tables full of managers were outdone by the tables full of workers, the message "listen, listen, listen" seemed to be lost and the managers went back to their rigid ways. I wonder if they were even capable of changing. I have no further data because none of them are around any more.

There should be open civil dialogue, but let's be clear about what type of freedom is sought by whom:

There are those who seek absolute freedom of the market, free of any government oversight, regulation, workers rights, minimum wages, workers unions, etc. A subcategory here are those who seek some degree of this freedom, moreso than not.

There are those who seek social freedom - for the government to stay out of our personal lives, while also protecting the rights of people regardless of gender, race, religion, etc.. These people generally recognize that the freer the market, the less free the people (the freedom to trade slaves, for example; the freedom to practice hiring discrimination and wage discrimination, etc.).

These 2 categories of freedom are inherently at odds, as demonstrated by history and modern examples.

Nobody wants to talk and listen to someone else's opinion, or even have a fair debate, they just want to be told their right and that someone else is the problem

Sorry. You have not been paying attention if you think the new left gives a damn about Personal (Individual) freedom or rights. It's about the collective. Well unless you're one of the 'elite' leftist leaders. Then it's "Socialism for the masses but not for the Socialist.

Courses in "listening" are not offered in US education system (the competitive culture). Only speaking (dictating), debate (arguing), and writing (no feedback) are offered -- and most Americans fail those anyway.
