Why am i brought to tears when i read the Bible?

the reason you decided to study more is the Holy Spirit has placed conviction on your heart, He effects different people in different ways at different times, some people cry but they are peaceful tears when you start to read you are obeying the Holy Spirit and He starts to weep for you, pray for you and bring you closer to God Just tell God to bring you closer to Him and to have His way in your Life, you may be amazed at what happens next find your self a private place and read, pray and worship allowing God to work in your life, talk to Him as a friend and do not be surprised to find a little joy and peace as you continue to obey God, may God bless and protect you always

Don't worry about your criticitics' God has a place for them. There is parts of the Bible that makes any God fearing person cry but are your tears of joy or sadness? Think of all the tears that Jesus' followers shed and be happy that you weren't there to see him nailed on the cross. He died because of the love that He had for all of mankind and even He had doubts in the end. Reading the Bible is not necessary for a relationship with God. Talk to God directly.

Why am i brought to tears when i read the Bible?

Probably because the stories and lies written there are so ridiculous no sane person could believe them. Let's face it, as stories go, Harry Potter is more believable and the Lord of the Rings is better written than the nonsense in the Bible.

Tears are due to two reasons 1) Being Happy or 2) Being Sad. First check of what do you feel while tearing ?

The words touch your heart. Don't let guilt separate you from reaching out to God. God forgives quickly and I think most of us go off like the prodigal son sometimes. The prodigal son's brother was not expecting his father to be so overjoyed. The father didn't hold anything against the prodigal son, but rejoiced at his return and accepted him quickly. None of us are perfect people. The Bible tells us that God alone is Good. We all fall short of His glory. Even our most righteous acts are like filthy rags. God takes us as we are as His constant work in progress. The more time we spend dwelling in God's love and truth, the more we are built up in God's love and truth. There is great joy for those who love God when they finally get to see the object of their faith.

You feel like you are failing in your relationship with God somehow, or maybe that something is missing in your faith. Reading the Bible or specific passages of it can be an acute reminder of one's shortcomings. Other than that it is almost impossible to say since you don't say what parts of the Bible you are reading when it makes you feel emotional.

It brings tears to my eyes as well, millions of people raped tortured and slaughtered for a petulant twit.

Before i was an agnostic i would get drunk and read the bible. Stop reading the bible while drinking.

The fact that any one actually believes any of the bible, is a source of extreme sadness to me.
