crochet and double crochet?

I an very confused by this pattern and so not know what to do. It asks that I "dc in next dc, skip next 2dc, dc in space before next dc...." It ask that I skip dc but dc in space before the next dc. I am so confused and what is the space before the next dc, isn't that the dc itself. Please help I am only 3 rows into the blanket.

I don't crochet much, but ... I think you have to make one dc, then skip the next 2 dc, and in the space that follows the 2 that you skipped, you have to make another dc.

Then you go on to meet the 'next dc'.

Don't read too far ahead. Just do the next step. Then the next. Eventually you will get the hang of the pattern.

    Hope it works out well!

ok, dc in the next dc, then skip 2 dcs and then!! stick your finger between the next 2 double crochets, this is where you will insert the hook to yarn over and make the next dc It will feel funny to be going between stitches for a while, but when you see how it looks, you will be pleased.

stick the hook under the top threads, all 3 of them so you are between the 2 dcs in the previous row. Yes, it seems like you are making a hole in the thing, but it is pattern you are after here.

this stitch will be lower than the others, so give it sufficient yarn.

I agree with dr and mrs bears face.

There should be however 2 single crochet in between the double crochet when you skip 2. otherwise you will not get a flat blanket.

Just do it a couple of repetitions and then turn around and do the next row to see if it looks right. Then take that out and go on with the whole blanket.

How fun. Good luck and if it is not quite what the pattern says but it looks good. You have just designed your own blanket.

Your crochet piece has a row of chains along the top and a row of "posts" below the chains.

Usually you insert the hook into the chains along the top of the work.

The space before the next dc means the space between the posts before the chain you would normally insert your hook into.

Hope this makes sense. Crochet is one of those things that is easy to do but difficult to describe.
