Is it possible to use a Freeview digital TV recorder (hard drive) with a separate digital DVD recorder?
I'm thinking of getting a Freeview DVR. Ultimately I'd like to be able to record programmes on DVD, but it's not something that I'm desperate for at the moment, so I'd be happy to go for the cheaper option of a DVR for now and then maybe add a DVD recorder later on. However, I've read conflicting info on the net about whether or not it's possible to connect two separate devices together. Does anyone know whether it would be possible to record on a DVD recorder from a separate DVR? If it is, do you know what connectors must be on the devices in order to do this? Thank you so much! I realise this kind of question must have been asked a million times but I had a quick look in the past questions and I didn't find an answer. Thanks!

It may be more complicated, but if you compare the size of hard drives available in separate units with those available in combined units, you get far more for your money if you buy the two devices separately. Sorry, but your response doesn't really answer my question.

it's a yes and no answer i'm afraid. it really depends on the model of dvd recorder you get.
some will have a AV channel so you can record off the scart (for camera's, so it has a special channel for the camera or something else to tune into and record off of)
some will not have a seperate AV channel for other Scart devices.
you would need a DVD recorder with a Scart in and a scart out, so you could connect the DVR to the dvd recorder and then to the TV.
if the DVD recorder has a SCART in it probably has a seperate AV channel for other scart devices.

Just buy a DVD recorder with built-in hard-drive and your problem is solved in a single, cheaper unit.

There are plenty of DVD recorders with 400Gb hard drives and several with 500Gb hard drives - how much storage do you really need?
You are speaking from very little experience (which is obvious from your question) - I am speaking from 15 years of experience.
I am trying to help you, to make things less complex for you and save you money too.
My apologies for giving you good and accurate advice - just because you aren't capable of understanding that advice, doesn't give you the right to criticise it.
