The answer is in Ezekiel 28:17 "Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor." Pride is the root of nearly all sin.
The following is from www.rustinsmith.wordpress.com
Humility is not a low view of oneself. Humility is an accurate view of oneself. Humility is a posture of living in proper relationship to God, the World (environment and people), and Self. The opposite of humility is pride.
C.S. Lewis called pride ‘the Great Sin’. He wrote, “According to Christian teachers, the essential vice, the utmost evil, is pride. Unchastity, anger, greed, drunkenness, and all that, are mere fleabites in comparison: it was through pride that the devil became the devil: pride leads to every other vice: it is the complete anti-God state of mind….it is pride which has been the chief cause of misery in every nation and every family since the world began.”
The remedy for our pride is humility. “If anyone would like to acquire humility, I can, I think, tell him the first step. The first step is to realize one is proud. And a biggish step, too. At least nothing whatever can be done before it. If you think you are not conceited, it means you are very conceited, indeed.”

Lucifer made himself Satan. To illustrate: A thief is not born a thief. He may have come from a good family, having honest parents and law-abiding brothers and sisters. But his own desire for what money can buy is what may have caused him to become a thief. How, then, did one of God’s spirit sons make himself Satan the Devil?
The angel that became the Devil was present when God created the earth and later the first human couple, Adam and Eve. (Job 38:4, 7) So he would have heard God tell them to have children. (Genesis 1:27, 28) He knew that after a while the whole earth would be filled with righteous people worshiping God. That was God’s purpose. However, this angel thought a great deal of his own beauty and intelligence and wanted to receive for himself the worship that would be given to God. (Ezekiel 28:13-15; Matthew 4:10) Instead of putting this wrong desire out of his mind, he kept thinking about it. This led to his taking action to obtain the honor and importance he desired. What did he do?—James 1:14, 15.
The rebellious angel used a lowly serpent to speak to the first woman, Eve. He did this much as a skilled person can make it seem as if a nearby animal or a dummy figure is talking. But it was really this rebellious angel, the one called in the Bible “the original serpent,” who was speaking to Eve. (Revelation 12:9) He said that God was not telling her the truth, and was holding back from her knowledge that she should have. (Genesis 3:1-5) This was a hateful lie and it made him a devil. He thus became also an opposer of God, or a Satan. As you can see, it is wrong to think of the Devil as a creature with horns and a pitchfork who oversees some underground place of torment. He is really a very powerful, but wicked, angel.

the note lucifer is actual latan. it became no longer contained in the unique writings contained in the former testomony because it became writen in hebrew. the note lucifer skill "elementary bearer". that turned right into a "call that devil , meaning adversary, had earlier he fell in pride and sinned. in all fact now devil isn't lucifer because devil isn't a bearer of light yet of darkness. i comprehend what men say yet look it up. so who's the elementary bearer now? who's the morning celeb? who brings elementary into darkish hearts? now earlier anybody screams look it up. it is the fact. also "God" is a popularity no longer a popularity. a god in basic terms skill someone or some thing who men positioned first of their hearts. funds can be a god. lust can be a god. in case you worship zeus then zeus is your god. my God is the daddy and the Son, Jesus.

He was not perfect, far from it. His proposal was to force all mankind to do things his way and to force them and to remove free will. He also wanted God's power and glory. God knew this would never work, man would never progress or learn anything so he cast Lucifer, and all those who followed him, out.
Isaiah 14
12How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
16They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
From this we learn that he was a "son of the morning" apparently a prestigious thing, that he wanted to "exalt" himself to his own throne "above the stars of God" which "stars" are the children of God, that is us. (Jesus is also a star, the morning star,Revelation 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.) We learn Lucifer is also a man. His sins were pride, selfishness and wanting to enslave mankind so God cast him out. Also, 1/3 of the spirits (again, stars or the children of God) that were in Heaven were persuaded enough to think Lucifer's plan was worth following, so they also were cast out, never to be born or to receive a body on earth, never to be a son, daughter, brother, sister, father or mother.
Revelation 12
3And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon...
4And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth...
7And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
8And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
His ways were deception and persuasion and 1/3 of those "stars", that is angels or in other words the spirits of mankind, the children of God, choose to follow him & were cast out with him to the earth. The rest of us, choose to follow God and were born on earth. God's plan was to allow free will and to provide redemption from the consequences of sin, which is death and separation from God, through resurrection and repentance made possible by Jesus.

Lucifer was NOT perfect. His pride caused him to sin and rebel against God, who IS perfect.

the same way Adam and Eve were perfect before they sinned
