I am growing an avocado,how do I dwarf it?
I know I probably won't get any fruit,and don't really mind that I just love the look of the tree,and live in an apartment, I want to grow it on my porch it's over 2 feet almost 2 & 1/2 tall now. When and how can I trim the top so that it will live & branch out? Also what is the best size of pot to put it in?

Most trees do not do very well if their roots are restricted in a container that is too small for them to reach their "genetic potential" (natural size). While keeping it in the container will keep it from getting larger than you want, it will eventually get root bound, and in all likelihood die. So, you won't really be "dwarfing" the tree.
Instead, you are better off in the long run purchasing a dwarf species of avocado tree that has been hybridized to stay small, making it more suitable for growing in a container on your porch. It will certainly last longer AND it will probably give you fruit. Double bonus!
