how do I price my used trek bike?

I have a trek 2100 ZX carbon fiber road bike I am looking to sell. How do I go about pricing it? I don't know the year, but I have it at home with me and can get any serial numbers of the frame and components etc. Thanks! Here is a pic link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/53143122@N00/55639319...

Thanks!

Typically a used bike is priced at half what it cost new minus 10% per year of age. You can go up a bit from there if it has some desirable components or is in very good shape. Or down if in in need of repair or you want to get ride if it.

I think your is a 1993. That is the year they made it with carbon fiber and shifters on the down-tube. They put STI sifters since 1994 and stopped doing that model in 1998. After 2004 they started making it again but went to aluminum with carbon fork. The original price was $949. You bike is almost 20 years old. It will need all rubbers and cables if they have not been replaced, on the plus side it has 105 components.

Dita is correct. The new stuff shows up after Interbike & the Expos. Some stuff starts to show in late August, and the big show is in September. The problem you may run into is that some of the '06 bikes are already gone (manufacture no longer makes them, switching to '07 line up). The most common sizes go first, leaving the two extremes. Most all the makers are getting better at judging demand so that there aren't lots left over as the new '07 line comes out. In short, if you wait too long for a good deal, the bike (in your size) will be gone. Some makers, like Specialized and Giant as 2 examples, have a set up so that dealers can swap bikes between each other. The shop you go to , if they don't have the bike, can (if they want to) make a deal to get the bike from another shop. As a warning, if there is one bike you just have to have, for whatever reason, do some research before buying it online (especially e-bay). I know of somebody who bought a "closeout" off e-bay. By the time she won the bid, had the bike shipped, and paid to have the bike built at a shop, she spent a thousand bucks. The original retail on the bike was about $550 and lots of shops were letting it go for about $400 as it was a closeout. Make sure you know exactly what the bike retails for before buying online.

Looking at your bike, it is probably a 1993 model, all the newer models have STI brake/shift levers. It originally sold for about $950. This was one of Trek's earliest attempts at building frames using carbon fiber and there were mixed results. These early frames had a fair number of frame failures, so one this old may not have been used all that much. Because of the frame and downtube shifters, many people might not be too eager to buy the bike. You could probably get $300 if you cleaned the bike carefully to make it look as good as possible

I don't think you will get much for it. It is nearly 20 years old. You might get more if it was aluminum, but unfortunately carbon degrades over time. Personally I don't think that frame would be safe to ride anymore, and none of the components are very nice.

I think you could ask for $100 or so.
