How do you recover files from a broken USB memory stick?
I have been using my 2G "Optima Attache" USB memory stick for several months, and just now when I plug it in, my computers (both PC and Mac) do not recognize it and ask if I want to format the drive. I have important files on the memory stick, and would really like to either fix this memory stick, or recover the files. Help!!

Indeed ,it can be recognized since your computer ask to format it.You just can't open it!In this case,I think you should rely on some data recovery software.

The stick that you are referring to is knackered It doesn't matter what is on it ......... its gone ......... the chances of recovery is none existent The flash drives that we all use are not as reliable as the manufacturers would like us to believe as I, and some of my friends have had them go pear shaped with data loss What the other guy said about usb solid state sticks is questionable ... I say this because in my experience, they are not that reliable, as a couple of relatively new ones have gone down while still under manufacturers warranty with a loss of all data, so wait a little longer before lashing out on these type of storage devices until they are a lot less questionable
