Information on training cat to be a therapy animal?
Hello :)
My grandma is soon going to have to be in a nursing home and i was thinking i would like to be able to bring a cat into the nursing home since i have seen how happy they make people.
I just started looking into this, and was hoping for some advice on how to go about this. I would be interested in getting a kitten so i could train him/her in the best way available.
Does anyone have any websites/organizations/personal experience they would like to share?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks :)

Hi
Good on you for thinking up this brilliant and very successful idea. Animal therapy is also used for sick children and it has also been proven to increase a child's health as the animal and child have this special kind of relationship. Animals whatever breed of animal will never judge a person like humans do. They will love you no matter what.
Its not really about training your pet how to be used in therapy but what is VERY IMPORTANT is that your cat is calm, gentle, won't scratch or move suddenly. As long as your cat is calm and well natured he or she will be fine.
My link for you is. http://www.vetinfo.com/cat-therapy-expla%E2%80%A6 animal therapy also works wonders for adults and the elderly. Best of luck to you

teaching it to be comfortable on a leash would definitely be something i would do that way the kitty cant run away from you. You need to have a friendly, well socialized cat. Also make sure to keep its nails trimmed very short or put the little plastic nails covers over them so they wont accidentally scratch anyone.

i would say look at the cats personality
cats do help calm you, i know from personal experiece and ive had cats that have come to me when ive sad so i know they can help :)
its hit or miss, but ask he owner about the cats personality
girls are genrally less boirterous, and cats that mum rejected them have been brought up by humans are genrally more accustomed to humans
