Why did people say (as a joke) that North Koreans will be killed when they get home?
In the FIFA World Cup, I saw people everywhere talking about that when those players go home, they would get killed.
It was obviously just a joke, but what is the background to this? Did anything like that happen before in the history of North Korea? What happened?

if you ever get out of north korea, you family is considered either dead or in concentration camps.
it is very dificult for a citizen to get out of N.K.
you can't say anything bad about the goverment/kim either, tge concentration camp might be waiting for you.

North Korea severely punishes those who bring a bad name to the regime or the country. The football team failed badly and so brought embarrassment to the country. They weren't killed but they were punished.
The joke comes from the fact that you can be killed in that country by the government for even the smallest offence, things you and I wouldn't even think is a problem. For example, this:

Because if they told their friends and family that they had not won the world cup (as their goverment told the people they won-because they are that evil) they would be killed by the goverment.
it is so sad but true, they cannot decide anything for themselves and are not allowed to watch foregein shows or listen to forgien people
