As Ann said, you can avail of the Balikbayan but it is up the immigration officer. So if you also have your birth certificate and naturalization papers it would be a good idea. You shouldn't have a problem though. You can stay for a year on the Balikbayan.
For others, the fee for extension is not always around P3000. Some months there are extra charges. The second extension is expensive if you're on a tourist visa (which you can get after you arrive) because you have to get the ACR-I card. That month you'll pay around P7000. At six months also there is an extra fee. Can't remember exactly for what but some type of security check, police check of some sort. I just pay and smile. :)
If not a balikbayan you can continue to extend for 16 months without much problem. There are a couple of ways to go beyond 16 months but they are subject to approval.

You are eligible for the balikbayan privilege, you do not need a visa or need to pay extension fees. You and your family will get one year free stay.
Simply get in the "balikbayan" lane when you enter the Philippines, present your expired Philippine passport to the immigration officer, and ask for the balikbayan stamp. There is no fee.
You should also consider applying for dual citizenship under RA 9225. The cost is minimal, it is easy to do, and there really is NO downside;

All of the 3 answer are wrong
Because you are former filipina you are able to get the Balikbayan Free Visa privelege which allow you to stay a year...
All you can do is...
You shall declare before a Philippine Immigration Officer at the port of entry that you are availing of the balikbayan privilege and shall present your valid passport in addition to any of the following documents:
1. cancelled Philippine passport;
2. birth certificate; 3. naturalization papers to show former Philippine citizenship; or
4. certification from the adopted country.

If you also kept your Philippine passport & citizenship come in on your Philippine passport with no charge. If you did not then you must extend your visa at any Philippine Bureau of Immigration before 21 days are up. You can extend for another 38 days making a total of 59 days.

Yes. You entered as a U.S. Citizen and must pay the visa extension fees. Roughly P2,800 each.
