Whats the difference between a suit and a tux?

Well, a tux is a more formal kind of suit. When one says "suit" they generally mean a regular suit like one you'd wear to the office. A tuxedo is a suit for formal occasions, and just looks dressier.

Notice that the overall style is different, fewer buttons, satin lapels. Not all tuxedos have the same qualities, but if you can't tell the difference, you probably don't wear suits regularly, because they look quite different from an informal suit.
