Need to change the mirror glass in my Mercedes E200 Avantgarde?
Hi. I have purchased the glass only for the drivers side wing mirror on my car, which was a lot cheaper than buying the whole wing mirror - it has arrived this morning and now I am starting to think perhaps I should have just bought the whole thing as I haven't a clue how to remove the mirror! I know I should have thought of this before, but as I now have it I may as well attempt to fit it. Has anyone done this and how exactly did you remove the old glass to replace with the new? The old one is still in one piece, it is just tarnished as I think the snow got behind it this winter. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks :)

if the mirror has a plastic fitting already secured to it ? do not try and glue this to old mirror.
if mirror is simply Flat ? then gluing will work if very careful about cleanliness etc
if it has plastic frame then old glass and frame needs to be removed. ( possibly be breakage bit by bit?) nearly all mirrors are now designed to snap into place so the new mirror ( and frame) should simply be a push and clip fit in. the hard part will be getting old Glass and frame out without damaging the Surround etc though it should also be as easily removed once you Can see how the fittings work.

The easy and satisfactory method is to leave the old glass in place and stick the new mirror to it.
You can hold the new glass in place to see if it will be ok, but there should be no reason not to do this as you can buy mirrors with adhesive as a kit. A tube of Araldite Rapid two pack adhesive will hold it in place permanently (from any DIY store). Clean and dry the old glass first. You may need to use masking tape to hold it in place whist setting. Use a small block of something against the glass and tape around the whole door mirror. It sets in about a couple of hours. Make sure it is in the correct position as it is permanent.
