What do you call somebody who is really kind and sweet?

Hello, 

First of all I do apologise: English is not my mother tongue. 
Basically I am looking for an English saying used for somebody who has just done something nice and kind.
For example German use to say something like - and it's badly translated - You are a real treasure. 

I know the French say something like that: You are a little heart. 

How do you express that in English?

"You're a  sweetheart" is fine. 

If you wanted to be a bit closer to the German sense, you could say "you're a gem," as in gemstone, which carries a bit more of the feeling of treasure.

Saying sweetheart is a bit over familiar.  It depends how close you are to the person who helped you.

If an internet friend then say, thanks so much my friend.
If they have done something really remarkable then tell them they are a diamond.

If you do know them personally then say your a sweetheart.
