How does the Western zodiac work?

Hi all,

I'm probably not alone in being confused about the recent possible changes to the Western zodiac. Actually, I understand exactly where the changes are coming from--from the movement of the Earth's axis in the 3,000 years since the Western zodiac was put together.

What I don't understand is why many astrologers are saying that the movement of the stars is actually irrelevant to astrology. I've heard it said that the new changes are not valid, because astrology is based on the planets and the seasons, not the actual constellations. But wasn't the original idea of it that the constellations themselves -were- important?

I'd really like to get some insight into how Western astrology is really supposed to work. I may soon be testing it, and I want to be sure that I'm testing the right system!

It doesn't.It's called pseudoscience for a reason.

Astrologers are frauds looking to hustle a buck,lots of bucks actually.You're right about the constellations but the alleged influence of of the Sun,Moon and planets passing through them supposedly give meaning

I think the astronomer that started this was trying to make a point(or a career move) that the basis of astrology is stupid.He's correct about that.

Please don't waste your time or money.Reading the symbology of grocery receipts is as accurate and you get them for free all the time.Instead learn science and critical thinking skills,they will serve you much better.

I think it has to do not only with the planets and seasons, but also how the sun moves through the galaxy... for example, it is said that we are moving from the age of pisces to the age of aquarius... each age lasting a few thousand years, because i think it tracks the sun as it moves through the constellations...

so if thats true then the actual location of the stars DO matter

No confusion necessary. Like all superstitions, astrology is fraught with incongruities and inconsistencies. For some reason, people who believe in astrology think that any number of children born in the same hospital on the same day will have exactly the same personalities and the same experiences; these experiences determined by extraterrestrial bodies. As we all know from day to day experiences, this is simply not true.

Basically, its a load of crap peddled by con men. Nobody can see into the future, so why not study serious astronomy and kick astrology into touch where it belongs.
