Yahoo IM IQ test virus..can you get it using the web-based messenger?

I feel totally humbled- I am SO careful about clicking on things people send me- some of my young friends in particular send me so many "dumb" things (like hey I got smiley central- try it!) and the like.... anyway, This morning, I get the "Hi I just took this IQ test and can you beat my score?" message.  

The kid DOES always send me goofy things- I generally don't look at most of them and am always warning him to not fall for things.. BUT I DID this time!  So I clicked on the link and it went to that take the IQ test page. I noticed that it wants a cell phone number and it would charge you monthly, etc.... so I didn't do anything else there.

So...........I heard that merely clicking on the link gives you the virus???????  I do not use the Yahoo messenger anymore other than the web-based one.  My anti-virus didn't say a thing...

What do you think? Does this virus get you merely by clicking the link? Is the Web-based chat immune to this one?

Yes, you could have got a virus and nothing is immune to viruses.  It happens to us all, so don't worry!

Download and run a full scan using Malwarebytes.  It is free.  Here is the link:

Also download a run Spybot Search and Destroy.  This is also free.  Here is the link:

Also, close all your browsers and run Microsoft's Malicious Removal Tool.  To do this, on your desktop, hold down the Windows (flag) key and hit the 'R' Key.

Type in the box MRT.

Click on "OK".

Click on "Yes" to User Account Control.

Click on "Next".

Click on "Full Scan".

Click on "Next" to run the scan.
