Like the Roman poet?
In a way he transformed the darker myths into something more enjoyable and readable, then again, he also took the myths, represented by humans, and transformed each person, displaying his take on the changes in history. Not sure what to say really...
Worldly consequences? Well, he was exiled, but I don't know if that's related, nor do I consider that worldly. He is one of the most studied Latin scholars though.
