This word was the least used in Greek and was the least specific in its meaning. Because the concept was so general in Greek, the early Christians used this word to explain the selfless and sacrificial love of God and the desired attribute that we should have of a selfless love that gives without expecting anything in return. One of the great examples in modern times is of Mother Teresa and her work in the slums of Kolkota. Among those who had the least she continually showed agape in a way that astounded the world. She has not been alone for as it was in the past and as it is today, in countless places around the world people of faith are demonstrating that value of selfless love to people in need.
