what do YOU think about christian rock music?

hey there,

i'm really worried about this , because yesturday my family some friends of mine and I went to see the living christmas tree and the church we went to was really big. well the thing was they didn't really preach the gospel at all , they had rock music playing there and i've never in my entire life seen that in a baptist church before !!! why did they do that ? God tells us in the bible that we shouldn't be good friends with the outside world. it bothers me so much, because i am a christian. and i believe that we as christians shouldn't copy the people who like rock music, we should honour God instead. spiritually. I love God. think about it , the story about the rich man and the poor man how the rich man didn't care about him at all ? well the bible tells us , as soon as the rich man blinked , he went streight to hell ! the poor man believed in Jesus and went to heaven. The rich man asked an angel if he could just have a drop of water to still his toungue. in the lake of fire.

What i'm trying to say is , if we let rock music in our lifes, it can ruin our lifes. what do you think about it ? If we constandly listen to rock music everyday doesen't that give you an attitude ?

thanks for helping . : )

miriam.

I'm a Christian, but I don't like Christian rock music, and I especially don't like it being played in the church. I would rather have traditional music when I am in church. I don't like a lot of the new music played in lots of churches because it is so repetitive, it's like chanting the same thing over and over.

Christian rock sucks, and I'm a Christian. However, there's nothing evil about rock and roll. All music came from the "outside world." There's no difference in morality between a harpsichord and an electric guitar. Oh, and if rebelliousness scares you, then Christ would've had you urinating all over yourself, lol... no offense, just a metaphor -- Aren't you aware of how radical his preachings were at the time? What he said about the Pharisees and such, it was very rebellious stuff, but it was on the side of RIGHTEOUSNESS. In other words, Jesus had much attitude. Here's a great example of what I'm trying to say... it's '60s rock band called the Velvet Underground (the band that started Lou Reed's career)...

As much as I like to see spirituality and Christian values represented in mainstream culture, I don't think music should be used as a vehicle to promote anyone's beliefs, regardless of religious or political affiliation. I think rock music and church music both have their appropriate places, and very rarely, if at all, should the two meet (I don't think rock is appropriate at a Christmas church celebration, Christmas has already been corrupted by pop culture to the point where people forget about whose birth we are celebrating...save rock music for your Christmas party at home). That being said, there's absolutely no reason why you can't be a Christian and still love rock music. Listening to rock music casually doesn't affect anyone's attitude or behavior, except in the extremely impressionable. I think Christian rock's biggest problem (like any other genre that puts an agenda before songwriting) is that a lot of bands tend to place the message over the quality of the songs, and the music suffers as a result. But bands like Extol prove that you can still make incredibly well-written and performed music within a Christian context.

Well not all genre of rock is dark as people think so. Remember rock music use to be about peace, Some of the rock music are political. all genres of music have evilness in them I actually think pop music is more evil than rock now. You cannot generalize the rock genre as a whole because its complex and diverse.

    woww. ohhkayy then...

anyway, i'm yet to find a christian band i like.

although, i don't really like any religious music, whether it be athiestic, satanic, muslim, whatever, because i don't really have any religious views of my own. i was born & raised in a stereotypical "christian" home, but i never really believed or anything. life's too short to worry about stuff like that i guess.

anyway, back to the question haha. i find most christian music to be trite. i don't really care about lyrics all that much which is pretty much the main focus of christian music, so it's just flat out boring imo.

but i'll gladly eat my words if i ever find a halfway decent christian band.

Whoa, whoa, WHOA! Why would you think Christian rock would ruin our lives?

First things first, just because people sing rock music does not mean they are Satanic or evil.

Second, it is up to YOU to choose to have an attitude after listening to rock. Rock music is not the devil's work. Whether it ruins lives or not, that's up to that person. I'm a Christian who listens to rock and metal, and mind you, we pray everyday and God in return helps my family and myself.

Yes, the link below is rock, and yes, they are singing about God. Don't be afraid to click on it.

I pray that you become more open minded. God bless you.

I agree with mussman, I'm also christian but their music is terrible.. There's nothin to it.. just watch that one southpark episode they pretty much show you how easy it is to make christian music.. but their are some bands with some decent tunes that are 'christian like' Creed and flyleaf for example.. But yeah if you want great music listen to TOOL.

God doesn't tell you you shouldn't be friends with the outside world, ding dong. God teaches us to love mankind.

What makes you sure letting rock into your lives will ruin your lives? Who is to say you haven't already been ruining your lives?

You already kind of have an "attitude"...
